K9 Enrichment Initiative believes the easiest way to rescue an animal from a shelter is to never have the animal enter a shelter. Families who are facing challenges financially should not be forced to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender their pets for lack of food.
If you or a family you know is struggling to provide food for their pets, please complete the contact form below a representative will reach out to discuss ways we can assist you and your pet.
Please note that K9 Enrichment Initiative is based out of Plainfield, IL. We do not deliver. You will be given a date, time and place to pick up items.
We do not provide financial aid. Only food, collars, leads, ID tag will be supplied for your dogs and/or cats.
We are not able to provide temporary housing as we are a foster based organization, not a brick & mortar building.
We provide Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella and Microchips through our Pop Up Clinics, those dates are posted on this website under “Let’s Get Your Pet Vaccinated & Chipped”.

Rehoming Your Dog

If you are searching to surrender your dog to our organization, please note we are not a brick & mortar building. We do not have the capacity to intake your dog upon asking for help.
We do intake a limited amount of owner surrender’s, this can only happen if we have a foster family who is available and willing to step up for your dog.
When we get a request for rehoming a dog, we post on our private page asking if anyone would like to step up and foster the dog. If we have no one to do so, I am sorry, but we simply cannot help you. If your dog has bitten, shown aggression towards humans and other animals, our insurance does not allow us to intake your dog.
Before rehoming your pet consider working with a trainer if you are having behavior issues, we have many highly qualified trainers listed here.
If it’s an issue of not having enough time to exercise the dog, consider hiring a dog walker or enlisting friends and family to spend time with the dog. Remember your dog rather be in your home hanging out all day by themselves, then at risk euthanasia in a over populated shelter.
We suggest you use the Adopt A Pet Rehoming Tool to safely rehome your pet if necessary and again for the safety of everyone, if your dog is aggressive, this is not a dog you should rehome without full disclosure.
If your dog has bitten humans and is aggressive towards humans, it’s your responsibility to do what is right for that dog. Speak with your veterinarian.
If your dog is reactive towards other dogs, you can work with a behaviorists to better understand how to help your dog and manage them safely.
